Stop Looney’s Forced School Consolidation

January 31, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Statement of the Wilton Republic Town Committee (January 25, 2019)  We strongly oppose the Bill proposed by the Democrats’ Senate Leader that would consolidate the Wilton School District with the Norwalk School District. The proposal (Senate Bill 454) of State Senate President Pro Tempore Martin Looney (D-New Haven) would seriously jeopardize Wilton’s reputation for high quality, locally controlled education. Other serious consequences for Wilton, known and unknown, would no doubt follow. The RTC is inviting the public to an information session on the Looney Bill on Thursday, January 31, at 7:00 PM. *Due to anticipated turnout, the informational meeting this Thursday, January 31st pertaining to the school consolidation bill has been moved to Trackside TeenCenter. Starts at 7:00. All are welcome and families with students in Wilton schools are strongly encouraged to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to facilitate responses to the Bill by all Wilton residents and give each the opportunity to be heard in Hartford as the Bill is debated.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to anticipated turnout, the meeting this Thursday, January 31st at 7:00 PM pertaining to the school consolidation bill has been moved to Trackside TeenCenter.

[[Below is the Wilton RTC’s formal statement as its initial response to Democrats’ proposed legislation that would consolidate Wilton with one or more other districts including Norwalk. The RTC has heard from numerous students, friends and neighbors in Wilton who have serious concerns about the Bill. The RTC will do its part to oppose the Bill, and part of that is facilitating and organizing opposition on the part of these friends and neighbors. We welcome everyone in Wilton to join this truly critical effort. It will start with an information meeting Thursday night 1/31 at 7:00. Tentative location is Comstock. We will discuss what we know and don’t know, and specifics about how and when Wilton can make its voices heard. We are here to hep fight for Wilton and its fantastic schools, students and families, along with our elected leaders and others in town irrespective of party or affiliation. We hope to see many people there on Thursday night. WPL]]
